Note:
Format phone restores phone to as if it was out of the box. Retains firmware version and operator Variant changes but wipes all applications you have installed. Does not format the memory card so any apps on there may reinstall once powered back up again.

Another way to format some symbian phones: Power off phone. Press and hold Green, * and 3 and keep them held whilst powering on and for a few seconds after.

Factory Reset resets all settings to defaults but keeps any applications you have installed and photos etc. Both need the Security code, which, by default, is 12345.

SGH-i550 atau SGH-i550W ?

Sebenarnya HP Samsung SGH-i550W adalah pengembangan dari SGH-i550 yang spesifikasinya dapat dilihat di sini:

Pada mulanya SGH-i550 adalah HP Smartphone pertama yang menyediakan aplikasi GPS berbasis Symbian (S60 3rd). Beberapa bulan kemudian muncul pengembangan SGH-i550W yang lebih komplit lagi mulai dari HSDPA hingga WiFi.

Oleh karena itu janganlah aneh bila SGH-i550W terdeteksi sebagai SGH-i550 oleh XP dan Vista.

Begitupun juga pemakai HP ini disarankan untuk tidak terlalu sering menambahkan huruf "W" dalam berbagai urusan setting. Seperti registrasi GPRS hingga 3G cukup saja dengan menggetikkan:

kode ini sama berlakunya untuk SGH-i550W, karena bila tetap saja menambahkan huruf "W" akan dianggap salah penulisan oleh provider cell.

CONCEPTS AND CAUTIONS

1. Binary is devided for 2 images, PDA and Phone. PDA image consists of CODE and CSC.
2. Do Not power off the phone or disconnect cable during download.
3. Use right version of Apollo written in ‘Release Note’.
4. Vesions of CODE, CSC and PHONE should be matched correctly according to ‘Release Note’ when you download. If the combination is wrong, phone may not work.
5. Phone LCD will show the downloading progress bar when you download CODE and CSC, however it will not show the progress bar during PHONE download. Instead Apollo shows the progress.

USB DRIVER INSTALLATION

1. Excute SSDN_V1.1.808.7165_SETUP_whql.exe to setup PDA driver.
2. Unzip SAMSUNG Mobile USB DRIVER(4.40.7.0) v1.6.zip, setup PHONE driver with setup.exe.

HOW TO MAKE SURE DRIVER INSTALLATION

A. Launch Apollo.
B. How to make sure PDA Driver

• Power on the phone with 1 + 4 button pressed.(PDA Download Mode)
• When you connect phone to PC, you can see the message like the picture below. This means PDA Driver is installed well.

C. How to make sure PHONE Driver

• Power off the phone and Power on with 7 + * key pressed.(MODEM DOWNLOAD Mode)
• When you connect phone to PC, you can see the message like the picture below. This means PHONE Driver is installed well.

RELEASE
A. PHONE Release

• Phone binary is release by Modem Team, the releationship between PDA and PHONE is written in ‘Release Note’. Therefore you should ***** ‘Release Note’ to know correct CODE and CSC version for PHONE.
• In myProject, you can find the ‘Release Note’ at Baseband Binary.

B. PDA release consists of CODE and CSC.

• FULL(CODE + CSC) Release

1. CODE and several CSC are released concurrently, in myProject CODE and CSC will be zipped as one file. The zip file is uploaded in Phone Binary part.
2. There exists PreSetTable.xml with some binary files in the zip file.
   

• CODE Release

1. After FULL Release, modified CODE is released without CSC modification.
2. In myProject, it is uploaded at Phone Binary part. There are CODE binary and PreSetTable.xml in the zip file.
   

• CSC Release

1. Without modification for CODE, modified CSC is released.
2. In myProject, it is uploaded at CSC Binary part, there are CSC binary and PreSetTable.xml in the zip file.

HOW TO DOWNLOAD
!!! Make sure CODE, CSC, PHONE mapping in ‘Release Note’, and then download with the correct version . After download, press *#1234# and ***** CODE, CSC and PHONE version . This is very important!!!

• CODE + CSC + PHONE Download(FULL Release)

1. In myProject, download FULL Release and PHONE binary.
2. Launch Apollo, press button to select PHONE binary.
3. Press button and select PreSetTable.xml.
4. Choose Country at ‘Country:’ , choose Operator at ‘ Operator:’.
5. Confirm CODE and CUSTOM version.
6. Power on the phone with 4 + * key pressed(ALL DOWNLOAD Mode)
7. When you connect phone to PC with USB, Modem is attached.
8. In PDA Status, ***** all the settings below are fine(default settings)
9. Select Model Name at ‘Model:’.
10. Press to start all download.
11. After PHONE is download first, the device will be re-booted automatically. And then CODE and CSC will be downloaded. If the phone is not re-booted automatically, detach the usb cable of the phone and power off. Power on with 1+4 key pressed, and the re-attach to PC. Then PDA binary will be downloaded automatically.

• PHONE Download Only

1. Proceed from the step’i-1.’ to ’i-3.’
2. Turn on the device with 7 + * key pressed(Modem Download Mode)
3. Do from ‘i.-7’ to ‘i.-9’.
4. Press button to start download.
   

• CODE + CSC Download Only

1. Do ‘i.-1’ , ‘i-3’, ‘i-4’, ‘i-5’.
2. Turn on the device with 1 + 4 key pressed and connect to PC to attach PDA part.
3. Do ‘i.-8’.
4. Press button to start PDA download.
   

• CODE Download Only

1. In myProject, Download CODE Release and unzip.
2. Do ‘i.-3’~’i-5’.
3. Power On the phone with 1 + 4 key pressed and connect to PC with USB to attach PDA part.
4. At PDA Status, Select ‘CODE’. ***** options like this.
5. Press button to start download.

• CSC Download Only

1. In myProject, download CSC Release and unzip.
2. It is impossible to download only with CSC Release in case of some Releases(before 2008/09/11 version) . In this case, to download the binary find CODE binary first that is mapped the CSC you want to download, in myProject. Unzip CODE, and overwrite the CSC and then Do things below.
3. Do ‘i.3~5’.
4. Power on the phone with 1 + 4 key pressed. Connect the device to PC then PDA is attached.
5. Select CSC at PDA Status. Un***** ‘Bootloader’ option.
6. Press to start download.

TROUBLESHOOTING
A. If the device is not attached after the Driver installation,

• Change USB Cable and Phone.
• Try with another PC.
• Consult R&D Team.

B. Download stops in the middle

• Close and launch Apollo again then try again.
• ***** the phone is charged enough.

C. Download doesn’t start

• ***** the connection between Apollo and a phone.
• Select an image again.
• ***** the image is not damaged.
• ***** Apollo version matches with the image.

D. Phone doesn’t boot up after downloading

• ***** CODE, CSC and PHONE Version

Rewelnya USB Driver Samsung SGH-i550W

PC Studio yang biasanya digunakan HP Samsung ternyata punya masalah klasik dengan PC Suite milik Nokia, keduanya konflik, tidak bisa hidup berdampingan. Solusi terbaiknya adalah salah satunya harus ada yg mengalah utk di-uninstall.

Suatu hari saya coba untuk menghubungkan Samsung SGH-i550W dengan Laptop dan ternyata baik windows XP dan Vista sama-sama tidak bisa me-load driver CD yang ikut ter-bundle dengan SGH-i550W tersebut.

Hasil instalasi CD Bawaan tersebut adalah dua buah Folder di C:\Program Files\Samsung\ yaitu:

• PC DLC Driver
• Samsung PC Studio 7

Akhirnya saya konsul dengan Google namun pada akhirnya ia pun mengarahkan ke situs ofisial Samsung (Download Center dan id.samsungmobile.com). Hasil download dari keduanya tetap saja mengambang. Selidik punya selidik, Pusat Servis Samsung mengakui kalau CD Driver bawaan tersebut tidak lengkap dan saya pun diberi copy driver lainnya yang isinya:

• PDA_Driver
• PHONE_Driver

Kedua Folder "baru" itu ternyata biasa digunakan pula oleh komunitas flasher untuk unlock dan reset HP Samsung. Klo begitu wajar saja bila saat pertama Google tidak mengarahkan pencariannya ke kedua folder tersebut karena keyword yg saya gunakan adalah "USB Driver SGH-i550W"

Caranya kedua folder "baru" tersebut cukup di-copykan saja ke:

C:\Program Files\Samsung

Hasilnya ternyata tetap saja tidak bisa! hampir saja saya curiga dengan kabel USB bawaannya yang malfungsi, tetapi ketika saya kembali lagi ke pusat servis Samsung, teknisi di sana memperlihatkan langsung bahwa HP SGH-i550W dan Kabel USBnya tidaklah bermasalah.

Untungnya saya bawa laptop sebagaimana dugaan saya sebelumnya, dan teknisi Samsung mengalihkan perhatiannya pada kondisi laptop saya karena ketika semua driver bawaan dan yang "baru" dicoba dites di 6 komputer Samsung ternyata bisa berjalan baik.

Saya pun pulang dengan satu kesimpulan sama dengan teknisi tersebut, Laptop saya yang bermasalah!

Tapi ada satu ganjalan "aneh" yang justru dari situlah jawabannya bermula. Port USB laptop saya tetap berjalan baik ketika disambung printer, USB flash, HDD eksternal. Jadi saya pun mulai mengubah haluan! bukan port USB-nya yang error!

Akhirnya saya mulai curiga dengan tidak sempurnanya proses Uninstaller PC Suite Nokia hingga jejak-jejak masih ada di Registry Windows. Akhirnya saya tidak lagi berkutat di Samsung melainkan uber-uberan di situs Nokia.

Kecurigaan semakin jelas ketika saya menemukan kalau Nokia Eropa mengeluarkan "Nokia PC Suite Extras" dan di situ ada Nokia PC Suite Cleaner yang berarti memang jelas kalau proses uninstalasi PC Suite Nokia itu tidak sempurna! Bagaimanapun juga saya salut atas Nokia yang profesional mengeluarkan tools pembersih ini sekalipun saya dapatkan jauh di Eropa sana!

Hasilnya ternyata menakjubkan, hasil kerja PC Suite Cleaner memperlihatkan temuannya:
- Nokia PC Suite registry entries: 8
- Nokia PC Suite setting files: 2
- PC Connectivity Solution setting files: 2
- Nokia Connectivity Cable Driver registry entries: 2
- Nokia Connectivity Cable Driver Ready: 1

Itu semua belum termasuk itungan per file-nya yang dihapus yang mencapai lebih dari seratus...

Setelah restart dan yakin telah benar-benar "suci", saya pun coba install kan PC Studio dan copy dua folder "baru" tersebut. Hasilnya akhirnya SGH-i550W baru bisa tersambung dengan sempurna.

Bila masih juga bermasalah cobalah:

• Uninstall lagi PC Studio dan lain-lainnya di Control Panel-Add Remove Program (pokoknya yg ada namanya Samsung di-remove aja)
• Hapus secara manual folder Samsung di C:\Program Files\
• Kemudian Restart
• Coba install lagi PC Studio nya dan sebelum di restart lagi, copy kan dulu dua folder update di C:\Program Files\Samsung\ baru setelah itu di-restart aja.
• PC Studio jgn diaktifkan dulu klo bisa iconnya di tray di exit atau close kan dulu.
• Sambungkan kabel USB nya ke Laptop biar Windows lebih dulu menyempurnakan loading drivernya lalu klo perlu restart lagi.
• Setelah itu baru aktifkan PC Studionya...

Bila masih juga bermasalah kemungkinan terbesarnya:

1. Periksakan Kabel USB nya siapa tahu cacat dengan mencoba kabel USB lainnya yang serupa.
2. Bisa jadi drivernya bermasalah, cobalah untuk download ulang PC Studio 7 atau higher version di http://id.samsungmobile.com atau di http://www.samsung.com/id/support/download/supportDownMain.do kalau untuk driver updatenya bila tidak bisa didapatkan dari situs Samsung langsung cobalah di sini:

Tetapi bila masih juga: cobalah ke Samsung Service Center hehehe jangan ke HP Second Center!

Jadi bagi yang bermigrasi dari Nokia ke Samsung masih beruntung punya Nokia PC Suite Cleaner, tetapi bagaimana dengan Samsung ke Nokia? apakah Samsung menyediakan pula tools pembersih total PC Studionya dari registry Windows?
